The Foundation
The Energy Foundation (EF) is a non-profit public-private partnership institution, established in 1997 by the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with the Private Enterprise Federation with support from the USAID. EF is devoted to the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy, as a key strategy to meet Ghana’s growing energy needs in a sustainable manner. EF collaborates with energy sector stakeholders and private sector energy consumers, to promote sustainable development and efficient consumption of energy in all of its forms in Ghana. The Energy Foundation is a leader in efficiency promotion, energy efficiency projects implementation, renewable energy policy advocacy, energy related research and market transformation activities.
Our Objectives
The objects of the Energy Foundation are:
- Promote sustainable development of energy resources and efficient consumption of energy in all of its forms,
- Educate consumers through publicity campaigns, educational programmes and seminars about the rights and responsibilities of consumers, the benefits of reducing energy waste, and assist residential, commercial and industrial consumers in improving energy efficiency;
- Advocate for policies that address customer service issues and promote national policies for the sustainable development of energy and adoption of energy-saving technologies;
Mission Statement
The Energy Foundation is dedicated to sustainable energy development and promotion of energy efficiency, through:
- public education,
- market transformation,
- policy advocacy,
- demonstration and promotion of technologies and management techniques that are used in the efficient production, distribution and productive consumption of energy;
- and the promotion of renewable energy resources

OVERVIEW OF OUR COMPETENCIES
The EF is registered in Ghana as a company limited by guarantee. EF is committed to the promotion of the efficient use of energy resources, productive uses of energy resources and the commercialization of renewable energy technologies (for SMEs) as a means of meeting the growing energy needs of Ghana in a sustainable manner. It is committed to the development of human capacities and technological capabilities for sustainable energy and industrial development, in harmony with the environment. EF undertakes project/enterprise development activities (including feasibility studies and project evaluation), energy, poverty, and environment /science and technology policy studies and management of energy related productivity and human capacity building.
