  1. Although fans are driven by relatively small motors usually between 65 – 100 watts, they are used for long periods and could consume substantial amounts of electricity;
  2. Open windows for easy flow of air into the room.
  3. Switch off fans when there is nobody in the room.
  4. Standing fans, if set up properly (i.e., by the correct window), can be very efficient as they blow warm air out of the room and allow cold air in. (e.g., If the cold air is coming in through the open west window, place the fan close to the open east window, keeping internal doors open too).
  5. By planting well selected trees carefully placed around your building you can reduce your energy bills in very hot weather.
